Description

This is a printed postcard reproduction of an illustration used as a bookmark. The image depicts several figures both men and women, from the description on the reverse side they are presumably indigenous Floridians, working the land with various agricultural tools. The women have long blonde hair, are not wearing shirts but are wearing frilly skirts. The men have yellows hats on and loin cloths. The bottom and left edge of the postcard are decaled. The reverse of this bookmark reads that it is an artwork by Theodor de Bry, titled "Florida natives cultivating the land," Plate XXI from Part II of America, dating reverse to 1591. It also reads that it is a reproduction is part of "a Dover publication" and is associated with the John Carter Brown Library at Brown University.
