Photograph of the Gallery of Maps, located on the west side of the Belvedere courtyard of the Vatican, located in Vatican City, Italy. The topographical maps that are seen on either side of the enclosed walkway were based on drawings done by Ignazio Dante in the 16th century C.E. The vaulted ceiling of the gallery is most prominently displayed, with colors enhanced, in order to make out the detail of this grand room. nearly the entire length of the gallery is visible in this picture, leading from the end of the courtyard to the Sistine Chapel.
