Description

Portrait of a man on paper done with a brown, felt tipped pen using the method of contour drawing. The man is staring straight at the viewer. Only his head is pictured. His expression is serious, but largely neutral. The man has short hair and a rectangular face. Only his left ear (the right, from the viewer's perspective) is drawn. His chin is square, although there is evidence that it was originally drawn as cleft. His nose is straight, his lips are neither thin nor full, and his eyebrows slightly bushy. The paper itself is yellowed with age, and would have come from a drawing pad as the tabs are largely still intact along the top of the page. It is quite translucent and thin. The paper has been torn into an irregular shape.
