"Purple Rain" is the sixth studio album by American artist Prince ( b. 1958 - 2016) and the Revolution ( 1979 - 1986, 2021, 2016 - ) released on June 25, 1984 by Warner Bros. Inc. it serves as the soundtrack for the film "Purple Rain" starring Prince. The album features singles: "When Doves Cry"; "Let's Go Crazy"; "Purple Rain"; "I Would Die 4 U"; and "Take Me with U". "Purple Rain" won two Grammys for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media; Prince also won an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. The album peaked at number on the U.S. Billboard 200 and number one on the U.S. Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.

The 14"x14" vinyl cover depicts Prince in a purple suit on a purple motorcycle with his love symbol in an alleyway; Apollonia (portrayed by Apollonia Kotero) stands in a doorway in the background. The cover was shot by Ed Thrasher and Associates (b. 1932) and Ron Slenzak (b. 1948). The back cover includes track listings, a note, Purple Rain film credits, production information and copyright information.
