Photograph of the remains of an individual who died during Mount Vesuvius' eruption in 79 C.E. Surrounded by unearthed artifacts, the individual’s remains are held on top of a raised platform. The individual in this photograph seems to be covering his face, perhaps trying to shield himself from the mix of gases and ashes that engulfed him.
